Dennis is a proud, long-time resident of Abington Township and Ardsley. Although he’s originally from Philadelphia, he has proudly called Abington home for the past 36 years! He attended Bishop McDevitt High School in Wyncote, and is retired after a successful career at SEPTA, where he was the Director of Maintenance and Construction.
Faith, family, and community have always been the center of Dennis’s life. He and his wife, Mary, are the proud parents of four children, and the loving grandparents of 7 grandchildren. He’s a devout, life-long Catholic, and is an active member of Queen of Peace Parish. He’s been a Eucharistic Minister at the parish for over 30 years, and currently is honored to serve the families and children of the parish by sitting on the board of Good Shepherd Catholic School.
Above all, service to our community here in Ardsley has been his life’s work. He’s the founder and president of the Ardsley Community Association, which has put on fun, exciting, and family-friendly events that bring Ardsley together throughout the year. He’s also served our community with numerous other community organizations, including the Ardsley Athletic Association, the Roslyn Boys and Girls Club, and the Second Alarmers, among others.
Finally, he’s proud to have served Ward 9 as its commissioner since 2000. He has been focused on representing, protecting, and advocating for our community as a leading voice in Abington Township’s Board of Commissioners, and hopes he has demonstrated his ability to think beyond party labels, state and national politics, and to always put our community first. He firmly believes in Ardsley and wants to earn your vote for another term as your commissioner.
"Abington Township Ward 9 has been very fortunate to have Dennis Zappone as their Commissioner. A natural leader who has real character and integrity. He is a man of his word, acquires excellent communication skills, cares about people, is dedicated and committed to getting the job done! Dennis has always voted in the township’s best interest. This includes NOT to raise our taxes.
In the 24 years of service, Dennis showed dedication and true commitment to the people of Abington Township. As the Founder and President of the Ardsley Community Association, Dennis implemented the Ardsley Flag and Light Program, as well as the Ardsley Family Day, and the Hero Flag Program. He was also responsible for coordinating the Christmas Tree lightings, and an Easter egg hunt for the children.
One of his many accomplishments include, working closely with PennDOT to achieve the new and improved Tyson Avenue/Edge Hill Road Projects; along with much needed sidewalks and parking availability.
Dennis and I grew up together in the same neighborhood and attended the same school in Philadelphia, so I have known him for a long time. He has always shown hospitality and concern for other’s needs. Above all, he is a truly genuine, kind and caring person.
Please see pictures of the Zappone team and a sampling of what Dennis has done through out the years. His enthusiasm and love for his community makes him the right person for this job of Commissioner.
Therefore, I respectfully ask you to vote for Dennis on Tuesday, Nov 7, so we can keep our Commissioner."
